Online Life Coaching for Change

Are you wondering who’s writing your story?

On the surface, you have little about which to complain. You probably have several things that fulfill you – your family, friends, work, community, hobbies − or you have any number of things that give meaning and structure to your life.

Yet, you live with a feeling there needs to be more. Sometimes parts of your “more” are visible to you, and other parts are not. You wonder if a life of “more” is realistic or if these are daydreams or fussiness about the world as being less than perfect.

More might look like pursuing a passion, moving to a new place, creating work-life balance, communicating your truths, deepening relationships with others, treating yourself with care and compassion, following a new career path, thriving through a life transition, or kicking off a whole-life renovation.

Even if you could get clear on what “more” would look like − you could never actually have it. Could you?

Yes, you can have it!

Coaching is about gaining “more” out of life, and no version of “more” is too big or too small.

Coaching cannot promise you everything you want. However, if you’re ready to work for your “more,” coaching will accelerate you toward a life that aligns with your deeper sense of purpose, values, and even your dreams.

How do I know? My training and experience give me a lot of confidence in the transformative power of coaching. But really, it’s this: I transformed my own life in ways that I never believed possible with the support of a professional life coach.

I know what it’s like to feel constrained, stuck, and confused − even after meeting big life goals.

Let me step out of my “historian” and “coach” modes for a moment to talk to you as a believer in change.

“Historian/Coach” is what I do. “Believer in Change” is what I am. I believe that every one of us has talents, gifts, and a purpose of fulfilling in our lifetime − whichever era that may be.

Our desires point the way toward the fullest expression of these talents. Having the desire doesn’t mean that we are entitled to all our hearts’ desires. It is up to us to look deeply, courageously examine what we find, envision what we want, and take courageous steps toward living our passion and purpose to the fullest.

I know what it is like to want things that seem entirely out of reach.

For many years, I believed that pursuing a Ph.D. in History meant that I had very few options for my career and my life. My profession and most of society told me that professional historians could only be history professors.

The scarcity of history professor positions led me to think that I had to accept whatever job I could get, no matter the location or the terms. I believed that the privilege of doing work that I loved came at the cost of living near my family and having a healthy work-life balance.

I loved my job, yet with each passing year, the gulf between what I wanted my life to look like − and feel like − and the life I was living got wider and wider.

Coaching gave me a new perspective.

Coaching showed me that this either/or world I was living in was a product of my mindset, my unexamined assumptions, and my difficulty sustaining momentum and focus when I felt pulled in many different directions.

Coaching helped shift my “either/or” mindset with skillful inquiry and insistence on the action to a “both/and.”

However, the transformation result was developing the “invent something completely new” mindset that resulted in my unique coaching practice. Historians aren’t supposed to train to be board-certified coaches. But I did.

Imagine living a life of your design.

What would your life be like if you could design it according to your goals and values and aligned with your unique purpose in the world? Coaching will give you the perspective, tools, action steps, and support to find out.

The powers of future visioning, inquiry, and mindful action are like athletics, writing, or playing an instrument. You can work out some moves, words, and notes on your own, but proficiency requires training in specialized techniques, strengthening exercises, and honest, direct feedback from an ally with a trained and discerning eye.

The coach provides the tools, guidance, observations, support, accountability, and unflinching honesty necessary to create a life that is genuinely your design. Each client’s process is different, and specific needs will emerge spontaneously.

As a coach, I bring training and expertise in telecoaching and my ability to see, hear, and respond to whatever you discover in the moment with whatever you need to keep your inquiry and forward momentum going. That is the essence of the coaching alliance.

Consistency is the key to success in coaching. Telecoaching by video call or phone keeps your momentum going no matter where you are or how busy you may be. It is easy to work coaching into the flow of your life in a manner that is supportive, energizing, and confidential.

You are the author of your life story.

Let’s make that story what YOU want it to be.

Coaching won’t tell you what changes to make or how to make them. Coaching is an individualized, results-oriented process that moves you into steady action toward achieving your desires.

I believe in dreaming, but I am here to support clients in doing what it takes to bring as much of what they genuinely want into their lives.

I want to help them hone clear visions, confront obstacles, stretch beyond the comfort zone, practice rigorous honesty, and become accountable for the promises they make to themselves.

Make no mistake: inquiry, exploration, discovery, and change are hard work, and a coach is there to keep the process challenging and productive. But my experience of being coached, and now of coaching, reaffirms for me every day that the hard work is worth it.

Let’s rewrite your story.

I was worth the effort, and so are you. Let’s do this.

There is so much to discover about what you want, what you can do, and what more your life can be.

There is a story of your life that waits for you to write. Let’s discover what it is so you can write it, live it − and love it.
